The Phantom of the Opera Slots Review: Movie Slot Magic from Microgaming 🎭

The Phantom of the Opera Slots Review
Tragic story? Maybe. Epic slot game? Definitely!

In 1909, Gaston Leroux published The Phantom of the Opera as a serialisation in the French daily newspaper: Le Gaulois. We wonder if the talented writer ever dreamed of his story becoming Andrew Lloyd Webber’s multi billion dollar stage show or the 2004 film of the same name. Now this unique love story continues in The Phantom of the Opera slots by Microgaming.

About the Phantom of the Opera Slots

Successful adaptations come naturally to the team at Microgaming with big brands like Jurassic World and Bridesmaid already under their considerable belts. In terms of raw story however this may be their most ambitious work to date - just check out this plot.

Disfigured since birth, the Phantom lives a solitary life in the sewers underneath a Parisian Opera House. Wreaking havoc on the aforementioned opera house, the Phantom falls in love with chorus singer Christine and helps her to become the leading star of the show. But things take a darker turn when Christine's old friend Raoul shows up and the two begin to fall in love.

With such an ambitious story line, can Microgaming truly capture the spirit of this ill fated romance? Let’s find out in our The Phantom of the Opera slot review.

Ease of Play

Another thing that comes naturally to the team at Microgaming are simple and easy to use controls. Once again, we find this slot game practically effortless to control making it the perfect slot for new players and pros alike.

Graphics and Animation

Featuring both the cast from the film and popular scenes, fans of the 2004 movie will almost be hopping to the DVD player to watch this classic once again. Of course, this is 2017 - so it seems fitting that the game has been given a remaster with some much needed HD paint.

The background suggests an open opera stage as the reels are draped by the iconic red curtains. All in all, visually this is an impressive game and so far spot on from Microgaming.

As with most slots, this games pays can be divided into the highs and the low. The highs are the picture symbols and the characters from the film, while the lows consist of items like perfume bottles, binoculars and red roses. Now for the special symbols: there isn’t a specific wild for the base game but there is a bonus symbol. Match 3 of the Phantom’s mask and you will activate the bonus feature.

Before we investigate the Phantom of the Opera slot free spins, there are two random features that can happen during the base game. The first of which is the Chandelier bonus; yep, the Phantom is up to his usual mischief and sends a perfectly good chandelier crashing onto the reels, turning 3 of them wild. Then we have the Phantom’s favour bonus - a sealed envelope that when opened can award a 20x your total stake win.

But these two features can’t hold a candle to the star of the show - the main feature. And you will need the three aforementioned Phantom masks to activate it. Once you enter the bonus round, you will have the option to pick between two Phantom of the Opera slot free spins rounds or a pick bonus.

The pick bonus is called the Masquerade Pick; you will have a collection of masquerade masks and under each is a reward. If you’re lucky you could pick an extra picks reward (for even more picks) or a level up reward, which will progress you to the next round of the bonus and even more valuable mask rewards.

Next we have the All I Ask of You free spins bonus; upon activating the bonus, Christine and Raoul will take to the reels and act as wilds. On each spin, they will “dance” and move into different positions. If the two symbols happen to land on adjacent reels to one another, then they will form into one giant wild symbol spanning two reels. If the symbols meet in the same location then any win will be multiplied by 3.

Finally we have the Music of the Night free spins, where the Phantom will unleash his fury with a series of random features. Out of the two, this is the most random bonus round - literally anything that can happen will happen. That includes sudden wild wins, extra spins, reel wilds and random multipliers.

Our Verdict

Arguably this is the greatest Microgaming movie adaptation to date and it’s clear they have used their past experience to make this slot a success. The Phantom of the Opera slot free spins is eerily similar to Jurassic World - but feature wise, Microgaming’s latest slot walks over the dinosaurs. Excellent graphics, a hair tingling sound track and outstanding game features - you’re guaranteed to fall in love with this slot.
